Classes and Workshops

Photography Class BannerWe’re glad to finally be getting another series of classes on the schedule.  We enjoy sharing what we know with folks almost as much as we enjoy shooting.  This set of classes will be held at our studio in Tuscumbia, Tuesday evenings and will begin at the end of January. Each class session is $45. Our Studio is located at the entrance to Spring Park in Tuscumbia in the Coldwater Books building just below O’Brians. I’d like to keep the class size small so please email me or send me a private message so that I may reserve a seat.

We try and keep the classes and workshops very casual, almost like a bunch of friends who have gotten together and share information.  We’ll keep the “tech-speak” to a minimum and share the information in a way that is easy to understand and fun.  It’s a “come-as-you-are” affair and we hope to see a lot of our friends and neighbors there.

Basic DSLR Photography. Getting Started with your DSLR in plain English  –  January 27th – 6:00-8:30
This class is targeted at those who have DSLRs but have no learned to use them or are intimidated by all of the controls.  Getting the most out of a DSLR camera isn’t complicated and we’ll prove it in this class. By teaching basic principles and “tips” we’ll help you replace the frustration with creativity.  Bring your camera and your enthusiasm and we’ll help you get the most out of your photography

“Stop Taking Snapshots and Start Making Pictures”  –  February 3rd  – 6:00-8:30
We like to think of this class as a “Tips and Tricks” class.  We all see those really cool photos out there that we like and wonder, “How’d they do that”.  This class is meant to shed some light on the those photographic puzzles.

“Lightroom, A Photographers Guide”  –  February 17th  – 6:00-8:30  *** Second Class Added – February 24th – 6:00-8:30 ***
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is a great tool for many photographers.  It’s a great tool for both organizing and processing your photographs.  Val and I produce over 500,000 images each year and Lightroom has become one of our biggest assets in managing our libraries and workflow. We’ll teach you how to integrate Lightroom with photoshop for a workflow that can help tame large catalogs of image as well as busy schedules.

“Beginning Photoshop for Photographers, The Basics”  – March 10th – 6:00 – 8:30
Adobe Photoshop is THE tool for serious photographers.  However, the program may be intimidating to new and first-time users.  I’ve used adobe photoshop professionally now for over 20 years.  In fact, since it’s very first published day.  It’s an incredible program but with so many bells and whistles, it helps to have someone walk you through. In this class will start from the beginning explaining the different relevant tools as and features as well as the best ways to use them.

“Photoshop for Photographers, Beyond the Basics”  –  March 17th – 6:00 – 8:30
This is the companion class to the Basics class.  In this class you’ll learn how to make photoshop work for you as a photographer.  This class covers Adobe Camera Raw and a little bit about color spaces.  Better color and contrast as well as sharpening techniques are all a part of this class.  If you’re interested in Adobe Photoshop as a photographer, this may be the best class we offer.

“Wildlife and Nature Photography”   –  To Be Announced Soon
Everyone loves great images of nature.  There’s not much that touches our soul more than a image of a beautiful serene sunset or sunrise. A heartwarming image of a animal caring for a newborn is about as special as it gets.  Or the raw power and emotion that watching an eagle providing for itself and family can provide an image that can be shown and remembered for generations.  We spend hundreds of hours each year in nature in pursuit of these types of images.  We’ll share our expertise, and failures, in order to help your capture whatever type of nature images you may be interested in.

“Sports Photography” An “Action Junkie’s Guide to Shooting Sports”  –  To Be Announced Soon
We shoot over 100 sporting events each year and we’ve come to know the difference between what makes a good sports photo and what makes a GREAT sports photo.  We’ll share some of our experience, technique and inspiration in this class.

Class space is limited.  If you’re interested, email me at: josephromansphotography@comcast.net so that I may reserve you a seat.  Or you may send me a private message on Facebook.  We hope to see you there. Joe
